Individuals who struggle with factors related to Social Determinants of Health (SDOHare at risk of experiencing poor health, morbidity, and mortality. For older adults, SDOH factors significantly impact their health and experiences aging, especially their ability to live independently and age in place.

By 2030, it is predicted that 20% of the nation’s population will be 65 years or olderand SDOH risks will increase. Social determinants of health are interrelated, with each variable impacting or affecting others. These related risk factors can affect up to 80 percent of an individuals’ overall health and well-being; therefore, it is important to protect health of older adults, lower medical costs, and improve quality of life for vulnerable older people.

Among other factors that older adults often face, they often experience stereotyping and/or discrimination based on their ageAgeism.

The Benton-Franklin Health Department along with Aging and Long-Term Care(ALTC) have joined Trust for America's Health (TFAH) to expand roles in improving the SDOH and well-being of older adults.

If you are looking for ways to be involved, join in our efforts of connecting and convening multi-sector stakeholders at a monthly Safe and Healthy Aging Coalition Meeting, that is held virtually on the 4th Monday of each month from 3:00-4:00 PM.
